More about Elaine
Whatever is bringing you to therapy, I understand that it can feel really daunting to think about approaching a therapist. Maybe you have a specific goal or want to rebalance your life and focus on yourself and your own wellbeing. Perhaps you are struggling with depression or anxiety. Whatever your reason I will work alongside you with empathy and without judgement.
My integrative training enables me to be flexible and tailor the therapy to your individual and unique needs. Working within an integrative framework, I draw on a range of therapeutic approaches such as psychodynamic and humanistic theories which I underpin with neuroscience, attachment, mentalization, mindfulness and trauma-informed therapies. At present I am studying EMDR therapy, adding another dimension which we can work with.
As I am qualified in talking and art psychotherapies we will have the scope to work in both modalities together. The creative process can be helpful to convey emotions, especially when it is hard to find the words to express what is being felt. In my experience the arts can provide a source of support in the process of exploring and expressing emotions and deepening self awareness leading to healing and transformation.
No prior experience or artistic skill is necessary for art therapy.
I work in the NHS and private practice and my passion for working with people stemmed from my early teens when I began to volunteer in the community.
Having lived and worked in various countries such as in South East Asia and the Middle East, I have a diverse range of health care experience. I have helped people address issues such as addictions, depression, anxiety, PTSD, complex PTSD, childhood trauma, and personality disorders; as well as those recovering from physical illness, domestic and sexual abuse, and those who have, or are facing challenging transitions in their lives.
In recent years I have worked with several charities: setting up an art therapy project for severely marginalised children and adolescents in Kenya; working with homelessness in London and supporting parents through pregnancy, miscarriage and early parenthood or infant loss. In the immediate aftermath of the Grenfell Tower disaster, I set up Art Therapy in partnership with a local Arts charity to support people affected by the tragedy. I continue to work in the Grenfell community for the NHS.
I would be happy to discuss how I could work with you and during an initial assessment consultation, we will explore together your current issues, your background history and establish the focus of the therapy identifying your desired aims and goals. This session provides the opportunity for you to decide if my approach works for you. I look forward to hearing from you. Warmly Elaine.
