Mental health reality check

We all get our eyes and teeth regularly checked, we try to look after our bodies, and when we’re ill we go to the doctors. But...

What about a mental health check-in?

In England, 1 in 4 people suffer from mental health problems. From depression to anxiety, or just not feeling quite yourself. Sadly, a lot of us feel embarrased or nervous to ask for help. And when you do decide to reach out, waiting lists and having to take time off work can be off-putting and disheartening.

We realised that therapy needed to be modernised – to work with how people live today.

“I‘ve never spent any time or money on my mental health... Now this just seems so counter-productive, considering how much I invest in keeping my body healthy.”

Have a question?

What is therapy?

Therapists are trained to help you explore and understand thoughts, feelings, beliefs and behaviours that affect your life negatively - and to try to help you change them.

When is therapy right for me?

You'll know when something's not felt right for a while. Even if it's something you can't put your finger on, if it's affecting your work, study or homelife, then it's time to seek help.

You might feel like therapy is only for extreme cases, but speaking to a therapist is starting to become as normal as seeing a dentist or doctor. Also, having mental health problems from time to time is very normal too. Especially, in this social media driven, 24/7, modern society. It's good to take a time out.

If you are in danger of self-harm or know someone who is, please visit your local Accident & Emergency (A&E) department or book an Emergency GP appointment as soon as possible. glyde should not be treated as an emergency service.

What can therapy treat?

Depression, anxiety, stress - pretty much anything that's troubling your mental health.

Sometimes there will be underlying issues (often from childhood) or maybe it's a particularly stressful period in your life, such as work, loss, relationships, health or money worries, or sometimes it's just an accumulation of mental wear and tear.

What about my privacy?

Your therpist won't divulge any details of your therapy to anyone. If your employer is paying, they won't even know that you've booked an appointment.

Your personal details (name, email address etc.) are encrypted on our database and no details about your therapy itself is stored on our system.

Apart from you, the only person who will ever know any details of your treatment is your therapist.

How does video calling work?

Many therapists offer the option of video calling – this will be stated on their profile page. Both Zoom and Skype are free of charge, though you'll need to download their software onto your device.

Your session will begin by phone and can continue by video call if desired.
